ASHE: We Speak the Names of Our Ancestors

During our Kwanzaa celebration we speak the names of our ancestors and say Ashe (ah-SHAY). This last year has been a difficult time for all of us and we’ve lost quite a few in our community. this piece is my way to recognize them. 🙏 🙏 🙏

I started working on this piece earlier this year. Little did I know that my own father would join the ancestors in February. He passed during Black History Month and that’s fitting since he spent his career studying and teaching Black history and culture.

Feel free to add the names of any friends, family, or noted individuals you would like to this post. I’ll start. ❤️ 🖤 💚

Dr. Edward W. Crosby, 1932-2021. ASHE!!

Prints are available.
